Sustainability

Our strategy for sustainability

In order to maintain EG Fuel Kampen Terminal B.V.’s long-term success and its position as one of the biggest integrated energy and chemicals firms globally during the energy transition, sustainable practices are crucial.

Sustainability

As EG Fuel Kampen Terminal B.V. seeks to strike a balance between environmental preservation, profitability, and the development and prosperity of the communities in which it operates, sustainability considerations have grown in importance.

We acknowledge the enormity and pressing nature of the climate crisis. With the goal of achieving net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions across our wholly-owned operated assets by 2050, we are using our distinct platform to contribute to the energy transition.

Environmental Policy

We take every precaution to protect the environment and exploit natural resources responsibly in its fields and licence areas. Since adopting an environmental policy in 2009, it has been enhancing its execution and raising annual expenditures for environmental preservation.

Environmental monitoring

The following are part of the corporate program of environmental protection measures and activity monitoring that EG Fuel Kampen Terminal B.V. is putting into place:

Utilising the lands of indigenous peoples with care
Enhancing systems for trash management
careful observation of emissions, surface water, groundwater, and soil quality within the company’s operational area
further actions meant to safeguard the environment.

The Group also investigates and conserves the habitats of endangered birds, plants, and animals in extremely delicate environmental zones.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions

In the area of environmental safety, cutting greenhouse gas emissions from flaring related gas is one of our top focusses. The Group wants to reach a 95% associated gas utilisation level.

The Group started re-injecting related gas back into formation in 2016 after building a new gas cycling facility. The Group increases the amount of re-injected associated gas each year by introducing new compressor units. The cycle process is an example of sensible resource use since it not only lowers greenhouse gas emissions but also makes it possible to store methane for later use.

Protecting water resources

At every stage of exploration and production, we work to minimise its impact on water resources and safeguard both surface and subsurface water resources. Among its initiatives are the installation of contemporary sewage treatment plants for household wastewater and the construction of sewerage networks at its areas. Furthermore, we regularly examine the chemical makeup of groundwater, soil, and wastewater in areas that have historically been affected.

Waste Management

Our operations generate a variety of home and industrial garbage, and we make every effort to handle it effectively. Systems for thermally decomposing domestic trash and oil sludge have been installed. Additionally, we constructed and run a solid waste landfill that the nearby hamlet uses for free.

EG Fuel Kampen Terminal B.V. keeps lines of communication open with all parties involved on environmental safety and protection. Public hearings are held for all possible projects, and the business frequently hosts media tours and news conferences.

Industrial Safety

In order to reduce the likelihood of work-related accidents, we constantly enhance our production procedures, make investments in employee training, and make sure that safety regulations are followed. One of the Group’s highest responsibilities is safeguarding the lives and health of its employees. The business has been purposefully increasing its investments in industrial, fire, and employee safety. In the last four years, it has nearly tripled in size.

Both our businesses and their contractors are subject to the occupational health and safety regulations of EG Fuel Kampen Terminal B.V. In light of this, we have created the following:

  • The industrial safety standards for all of our businesses are established by an occupational and industrial safety management system.
  • A clause that sets consistent HSE standards for all contractors operating inside our regions.

Operational control

Assuring the safe running of hazardous manufacturing facilities, preventing accidents, and being prepared to localise their effects are all goals of operational control.

We are performing the following operational control task:

  • It has developed safety data sheets for all hazardous production facilities;
  • Has created plans for the localization and liquidation of emergency oil spills;
  • Carries out comprehensive inspections of hazardous industrial facilities at its fields and license areas.

Emergency situation management and prevention

We insures its readiness to prevent and manage emergency situations:

  • We conducts annual oil spill response and containment drills involving special organizations;
  • It owns modern equipment and machinery for rapid containment of oil spills and their cleanup.

Industrial risks insurance

In order to minimize the negative effects related to possible accidents, we annually acquires an integrated insurance package, which includes:

  • Property insurance (covers losses related to risks in the operation of facilities and equipment);
  • Civil liability and environmental pollution liability insurance;
  • Production interruption insurance.

Every year, independent international risk engineers conduct a survey of our fields and license blocks. Following their recommendations, we minimizes the identified potential risks, taking into account the probability and magnitude of each risk and its possible consequences.

Fire safety

Our primary goal in this area is still to keep improving its fire safety protocols. We conduct fire drills, fire-technical assessments, and routine inspections of fire operations at its sites. It has created strategies to eradicate fires, is enhancing the field infrastructure required for fire prevention and quick localisation, and runs fire departments.

Our fire stations not only put out fires at their own businesses but also at those of contractors, nearby municipalities, and nearby forest regions.

Occupational safety

By establishing safe and healthy working environments and offering safety training to staff members, we are constantly striving to increase employee safety.

Its workplaces adhere to the safety and health regulations set forth by Dutch legislation. Personal protection equipment is offered to our workers and contractors who work in its fields and licence areas. Every one of our staff members has regular medical exams and is covered for accidents.

After the workplace safety policy has been successfully implemented for many years, the number of accidents has gradually decreased until it is zero.
